Spiritual Sunday--A Little Late...

A couple of Sundays ago I had a post about contentment. Mainly because there has been so much that I have been thinking about and asking myself why?  I had a list of things that I wanted to accomplish before I turned 30 and a lot of them I really had to think about why I wanted to accomplish these things. Sure, I want to loose weight, but what was my real reason for wanted to do it so fast. If it takes me 2 years to lose it, what difference does it make? As long as I am healthy and happy with it. My weight is something that I have been struggling with for a long time now, just about my whole life. And I am at a point where I am who I am. The same size 14/16 that I have been for the past 10 years. I am not saying that I am giving up, but what I am saying is that I am going to do what makes me happy. If that includes eating a burger every week, then so be it. I see so many woman that are curvier, and they embrace it. I am so caught up on the size of items that I've completely lost my sense of style.

Awwh, the single life. Where to start with this one?!?!? Ya'll all know how I hate technology and what its done to communication as we know it. Well, there is a reason for that. I just feel like everywhere I look everyones life is moving forward but mine. I know that I shouldn't compare myself, but there are parts of me that cannot help but to. I'm sure that I am insecure in a lot of ways about being 30 *gasp* single, and not married and *grabbing my chest like Fred Sanford* no kids. It just starts to wear one me and I wonder when will it be my time. But this is where the whole contentment thing comes in. Why am I so concerned and obsessed with being in a relationship or with someone. I honestly had to ask myself why? Am I trying to save face? Want to be in the in crowd so that I can go on couples weekend with friends? All selfish reasons. If I were to find someone, and settle for them just to have a relationship, I would be miserable and it wouldn't be in God's time. I believe that I should cherish this time that I have alone and learn from it and learn myself. Honestly, that is what I have been doing. Lately, I have had some moments of clarity...and I have taken a look at some of the men that I thought was the one and now see as dodged that bullet. But it does have its lonely moments, but this is where I am supposed to lean on the Lord.

Stay tuned for Part II!

My Growing Obsession...

Thai food! Let's just say that in the past week, I have spent $32 dollars on Thai food, alone. That is alot for me in eating out, and I have been to two different places. I'm not sure if its the spicy complex flavors that draw me to it or what, but I think that I have to do something about it quick! My wallet and stomach may not be able to last too much longer.

There are a couple of places in the Pittsburgh area that I favor: Green Mango, Papaya Asian Cuisine, Thai Suan Thip. I have tried other places and they were...they were...well, let me just get it out there. Thai food, to me, tastes nothing like Chinese food. The Americanized way of cooking it, just doesn't appeal to me. I want bold, unusual flavors, and most of the places that I have been to hit that right on the nose. But there are some exceptions-Thai Foon in Robinson. Ugh! The two times that I have been there have been less than desirable. The food lacked flavor...of any kind. I had the Basil Chicken, bland and bland. Then I had the Pad Thai, gummy and tasteless. It just wasn't a good experience.

If you have never tried Thai food, I highly recommend it. I will admit that its an acquired taste and it may take some trials and errors to find out what you really like and can tolerate. Please bear in mind that its SPICY! But every place that I have been to, with the exception of Thai Foon, you can customize your heat level. Every dish comes with your choice of protein, tofu for the vegetarians. From what I have read alot of the sauces contain fish derived products, so if you are a vegan you may want to ask for a list of ingredients.  Go ahead and get to googling! See what Thai place you can find!

My suggestion for a first timer: Basil Chicken or Pad Thai.

A Hometown Favorite...

For any of you that may have moved away from home and have that favorite place that you love to eat at, well, this post is for you!

Today, I went for my annual physical. Umh, yeah, I got to get a tetanus shot. Afterwards, I decided that to go to what people in Beaver County call Police Station Pizza in Ambridge since my doctors office is right down the street.

From the looks of the picture, you might be thinking 'looks like some normal old pizza'...but once you taste it...Wow! There is just something about it.  I don't know if its the crust, or the toppings, or the sauce. Not sure, there is just something about it. I mean, yes, it bothers me that the dude that makes the pizza takes the money and there isn't a sink or sanitizer in sight, but what can you say. Perhaps that is what makes it so good! I think that they even ship pizza. There was a man there that brought two sheets, but they were all in bags. Like the sauce, cheese, crust all separate. I personally think that the pan makes the difference with this pizza. They probably haven't washed them since they opened the place.

I'll be honest with you, I ate all of the pizza that I brought. It was worth it!  If I moved away, it would be the one thing that I would miss. There just isnt' anything else like it that I have tasted.

Well, on to a great night of TV. The Revenge season finale comes on tonight...I can't wait to see what happens!! I hope that Nolan doesn't die. If you haven't seen Revenge, you are seriously missing out! It's one of the best shows out.

To Stay or To Go...

If you look on my list of things to accomplish before I turn 30, you will see that I have to decided weather I should stay or should I go, rent or buy. Well, here we are at the end of another lease and I still don't know what I want to do. I have been living here, in what I like to call the Carrie Bradshaw apartment (small space; big closets), for 2 years now and it has pros and cons. Then again, I am tired of moving. Every three years, I am moving. I've been thinking about moving to another apartment so that I can save money, but here in the area that I live most of the apartment are rent + electric, but everything is electric...making your light bill $200 in the winter months for heating and $100+ in the summer months for air conditioning.

Pros of the Carrie Bradshaw:

  • Most utilities included
  • Nice closet space
  • Large bedroom
  • Clean
  • Off-Street parking

Cons of the Carrie Bradshaw:

  • Periodic noise
  • No parking--sometimes
  • Rent increases
  • Constant turn over; mainly college students
  • Unable to customize

I've been looking at the real estate market for my area and there are a couple places that I feel would make a great starter homes for myself. I just feel like I need to save up more money for closing costs. Recently, I have also been looking at alot of HGTV and I feel so inspired!  I want to give my place its own personal stamp. And buy new furniture that doesn't match but goes together...you know what I mean.

Even though with homeownership, there is alot of added responsibility, but there is also alot of freedom. I love the area where I live at, its so centrally located and I just want to be settled. If I choose to stay here in the Carrie Bradshaw, I will save as much money as I can...not to mention I would save with moving costs. Only to have move again. Maybe I should just stay here until I buy a house? Oh, poo!

With that being said, should I leave or stay?

Krafts!!

Feeling inspired and slightly bored, I created this jewelery board. It's spring cleaning in my house and I have about a hundred accessories that were stuffed in bags, lying all over the place and just not being used because I didn't know what I have. After browsing a couple of pins, and taking a look at a couple of YouTube videos, I came up with what you see above: A Kara Dee Original!

It was super easy to do. Even though, I didn't have good scissors, or pins to correctly pin the placement of the fabric, it was finished in about a half hour. The cost including the cork board frame, fabric, ribbon, and push pins around $15.

With the left over fabric, I am going to make some button earrings for my mother and me. Well, actually it may be some gifts to friends, as well. I have a lot of fabric left over. Maybe I will dye parts of it so that everyone doesn't just get black and white earrings.

It felt so good to exercise my creativity and my mind making this jewelery board. Be on the lookout for other Krafts!
